This intermediate sewing program is more comprehensive courses for Individual learning (1 to 1) with flexible schedule of candidates’ arrangement (subject to availability).

The course is aimed for those who have previous sewing experience to include Learners want to improve their sewing skills to a more advanced level. Dive deeper into developing your pressing skills, exploring time-saving sewing techniques and advancements and perfecting their pattern fitting abilities.

Classes consist of 36 hours of 12 session(s).

This class is designed to empower Learners with the ability to skilfully sew basic outfits and quickly advance to the next level of sewing with ease. Learners will learn to apply these skills to the creation of personal items of apparel. In this course, Learners will be taught how to use a variety of methods such as IT technology / equipment to develop their skills for making clothes, flat pattern and advanced industrial techniques practices.

S2.1.1P - Develop Patterns and Sew Men’s Shirts & Trousers

This menswear pattern cutting course offers to learn and develop all aspects of professional menswear pattern cutting skills to industry standard. The course will introduce to exciting new methods of contemporary pattern cutting for menswear, focusing on current trends and shapes as well as covering the more traditional methods.

Learners start with an introduction to industry-standard pattern making and are taken step-by-step through the core skills of pattern reading and style interpretation. Learners will focus on the menswear body block and sleeve, learning the basics of pattern manipulation before moving on to create menswear patterns for a variety of garments. Learners will learn how to alter patterns for fit, as well as how to change the look of a garment to create different silhouettes and for working with different fabrics.

1.     Take accurate body measurements, shapewear, and control-top hosiery
2.     Determining the proper pattern sizes and circumference of specification measurement provided
3.     Make a muslin, layout pattern and use a basting stitch to construct
4.     Apply seam, marking, waistbands, pockets, linings & fly fastenings
5.     Techniques in using a sewing machine and function operation, footers, lockstitch, and overlock
6.     Sewn pant muslin to achieve the fit.

S2.1.2P - Pattern Making and Sew Ladies Shirts & Pants

This course will teach the pattern cutting skills to the level of Introduction to Womenswear Pattern Cutting and sewing skills to the level of Introduction to Sewing Skills.  The course covers the method n making a tailored pants and shirts following commercial methods used.  Develop a set of flat blocks as well as provide the step-by-step techniques to complete a fully lined ladies apparel.

Learners at least to have a basic knowledge in pattern drafting as this course focuses on advanced pattern drafting and sewing skills. Learners will learn to draft a pant and shirt flat block pattern, and then construct the pattern on the fabric.  Using industrial machines, sewing technique applies and how to garment construction elements such as cuffs, collars & inserting sleeves.

S2.1.3P - Develop Patterns and Sew Outfits Kurung Pahang & Kebarung Suits

This is traditional sewing course where it provides more advanced skills in pattern drafting and operational sewing processes. The drafting involved technical methods in the construction of various kinds of top and bottom. It also covers advanced sewing techniques and hands-on sewing operations.

In this class, learners will learn more advanced how to develop drafting through pattern making and to sharpen learners’ sewing skills to the professional standard.    During this practical sewing lesson, learners will be training using the industrial sewing machine to build your confidence with an industrial standard and develop a range of related sewing skills.  Besides that, learners will also gain the knowledge in selecting fabrics, pattern layout and cutting and basic sewing techniques. Additional topics may include the pressing of sewn garments, standard types of sewing machines and seam styles as well as final sewing of a finished piece.

 Learners will focus on making contemporary traditional baju kurung Pahang or Gantung and Kebarung that the design is a combination of the baju kebaya and the baju kurung and it can be fit or loose and almost reaches the ankles; it is like one of the traditional clothes of the Malay with an adaptation style.

6.     Sew complete kurung, kebaya with set-in sleeve and sarong (skirt)

2.     Conversion basic pattern to the actual pattern block according to the size bodice
3.     Interpret drafting of neckline based on given size specification using manipulation methods
4.     Layout pattern on grain lines fabric, apply seam and marking
5.     Use bias tape binding, hand finishing, invisible zippers, pocket, interfacings, elastics, casings and stitching finishes
6.     Techniques in using the sewing machine and function operation, footers, lockstitch, and overlock
7.     Build in fabric retraction and shrinkage into a garment

S2.1.4P - Interpret Patterns and Sew Outfits Cheong Sam Dresses

Learn to interpret pattern and sew the oriental styles are fashionably ‘ethnic’ Chinese cheongsam (Qi Pao) with western influenced version of traditional Chinese dress, a sheath dress with mandarin collar and side angled neck opening.  Many different style details in the designs Learners can learn whether the opening goes into or below the armhole, the dart, zipper, and the sleeves.

A guide how to transfer pattern and cut on fabric using different technique method, including all notches, darts, so on.  Sew in the press studs, attach the mandarin collar to the neckline.  Finish the slits and hem.

S2.1.6P - Construct Block Patterns Making

The fundamental idea of how to approach pattern making all stems from what a pattern does to a piece of fabric. Essentially the pattern is a template for each piece of the garment, such as front, back, sleeve etc. These pieces are laid on top of the fabric and cut out so that the fabric matches the shape of the pattern and any additional instructions, markings, button placements are normally also on the pattern.

This step-by-step introductory pattern cutting course will introduce the basic techniques block pattern making.  Learn how to make a range of pattern pieces for the bodice, top, bottom and sleeve.  The opportunity to understand different styles and how to alter your patterns to create different shapes. The course will also cover a brief introduction to sizing and how to modify their patterns for a better fit.
